Your First Visit

We’re so happy you’ll be visiting us at Cook Orthodontics of Dublin! Dr. Cook and staff are excited to meet you at your consultation and give you a better idea of how orthodontic care can improve your smile. It is our goal to make you feel comfortable during your visit, and we hope you leave your consultation excited about your new smile. Here’s what you can expect during your first visit with us.

What to Expect

Your first visit comes without worry or obligation. It’s simply a complimentary consultation appointment so you can get to know our board certified orthodontist Dr. Brandon Cook and discuss your dental concerns. We’ll take this time to learn about you by reviewing your dental and medical health history and taking and reviewing diagnostic photos and x-rays. Based on the information we collect along with Dr. Cook’s comprehensive examination, Dr. Cook will be able to see if it’s a good time for orthodontic treatment and discuss your options with you. We can determine together if treatment and timing is right for you. We reserve an hour for this initial consultation.

Is This Visit for Your Child?

This initial appointment is scheduled for one hour in a private room with Dr. Cook and one of our Treatment Coordinators. Up to TWO parents are welcome to be present at that appointment.

The American Academy of Orthodontists recommends children get their first check-up at the first recognition of an orthodontic problem, but no later than age 7. Around that age, children have a mix of baby and permanent teeth.  Beginning to influence their final smile early in childhood can minimize the need for more extensive treatment as teens or adults, such as extraction of permanent teeth or jaw surgery.

There is a considerable variation in the chronological age at which a child reaches developmental milestones, so we look at skeletal growth and not chronological age to determine how much adolescent growth they have left at a particular moment in time. We gather this information by taking hand-wrist x-rays on girls beginning at age 9 and boys beginning at age 11. We use growth information to plan the perfect time for treatment for your child.

The goal of early treatment is to create an environment to allow the permanent teeth to erupt as close to an ideal position as possible. This makes the teeth more stable long term and often shortens the amount of time patients have to spend in full braces during their teenage years. Not every child requires an interceptive phase and is placed in our observation program at no charge to watch the growth and development of permanent teeth to catch any dental concerns early. Making your child feel comfortable and excited about their smile is our highest priority.

Imaging

Our office uses the latest in digital image technology. We have digital radiography machines that take 2D and 3D images as well as digital scan and 3D print technology. Our in-house lab makes most custom appliances from 3D models. If an impression is required, impression materials have improved over time with quicker set up times and a variety of fun flavors. Our goal is to create diagnostic records that are informative and comfortable for the patient. If your dentist has a current panoramic x-ray, we will request that it be sent to the office in time for your initial visit. Original copies of any x-rays taken in our office are sent to your dentist along with a letter of treatment explanation.

Financing

We think a beautiful smile should be affordable. Finance and insurance information will be reviewed as part of your initial visit. You can provide your orthodontic insurance information over the phone at the time of scheduling or complete the information through our digital forms. Our staff will verify your coverage so it can be reviewed at the time treatment options are presented.

For your convenience, we accept direct payment from most insurance plans as well as Care Credit. If you have Health Savings (HSA) or Flex Spending (FSA) benefits, those can be used towards orthodontic treatment expenses with the benefit of pre-tax dollars. We offer in-house, interest-free financing options for most treatment plans so you will have all of the information you need to make a decision about how to work treatment into your financial budget.
