Patient Resources

We like to make the orthodontic process easier and more convenient for our patients, so we put together this comprehensive resource center. This is where you’ll find all the resources you may need as an existing patient at Cook Orthodontics of Dublin. Choose the resource that fits your need from the following:

What to do during an orthodontic emergency?

You will find it reassuring to know that there are very few true orthodontic emergencies. An orthodontic emergency is when pain, swelling or bleeding is present. Patients with this type of urgent need are seen weekdays, at the first available appointment time on the day that you notify the office. Depending on the urgent nature of the emergency, the patient may be referred to another specialist if treatment is necessary (mouth injuries, etc.). For any after-hours or weekend emergencies, call the office @ (614) 734-9000 and follow the emergency prompts. Dr. Cook will return your call.

What may not be a true dental emergency is still a concern for you or your child so please use these guidelines to make yourself comfortable until you can be seen in the office. If you need a repair appointment or have a wire poke, please call the office and you will be offered an appointment within 48 hours. We strive to see all of our patients at their scheduled time, therefore, we require repair appointments to be scheduled as well; there are no walk-in hours. These repair appointments are usually scheduled earlier in the day. If you require an after-school appointment, you will be offered an appointment time on Wednesdays between 3-4 with our triage clinician.

Non-Emergency Orthodontic Situations:

  • A palate expander becomes loose: We can remove the expander and schedule a follow-up appointment to have it re-cemented.

  • Loose bands or brackets: These appointments are scheduled in the middle of the day at the first available appointment time. Depending on how many brackets are loose, a longer appointment may be necessary to re-cement the brackets so the patient will be made comfortable and scheduled for a follow-up appointment.

  • Broken or loose wires: If the wire is poking the cheek or gums, use wax to protect the soft tissue area until your appointment time. These appointments are scheduled in the middle of the day at the first available appointment time.

  • Front tooth pontic is loose or out: When you call the office for an appointment, please let them know that your pontic “fake tooth” is out so we can allow enough time for a lab repair if necessary.

Ready For Special Cases

Dr. Cook and his staff’s combined years of education, training and experience in orthodontics have prepared them to excel in cases within a wide range in level of difficulty. Prospective patients seek out our knowledge and experience when they have been told from other offices that their case is too difficult to be treated at that office. Whether it is early intervention in children with severe overbites, underbites or crowding to adults with surgical or comprehensive restorative needs, we feel confident that we can find a solution together.
